Bringing Hip-Hop to China

Andrew Ballen is a Black entrepreneur who moved from North Carolina to Shanghai to pursue a different lifestyle.  Landing in this foreign land all by himself, Ballen learned the native tongue through socializing, mimicking, and everyday life experience.  Hip-Hop was one of the sorely missed elements of his past life in USA, so Andrew Ballen started a night club and opened a recording studio.  Today, his initiative is to assist in bringing Hip-Hop to China.  Watch as Tavis Smiley, talk show host, author and philanthropist, takes us on a walk with Mr. Ballen as he shares his experiences living abroad in Asia.

Song of the Week (7) Tupac……………….Keep ya Head up

Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), known by his stage names 2Pac (or simply Pac) and Makaveli,  was an American rapper. Shakur has sold over 75 million albums worldwide as of 2007, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world.   Rolling Stone Magazine named him the 86th Greatest Artist of All Time. In addition to his career as a rap artist, he was also an actor.[3] The themes of most of Tupac’s songs are the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism, other social problems, and conflicts with other rappers during the East Coast – West Coast hip hop rivalry. Shakur began his career as a roadie and backup dancer for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground.

Tokyo Tower, Imperial Garden……………………Tokyo, Japan

A lot of people think Tokyo is just tall buildings and clubs but there is another side of the city you should see when you visit. If you party during the night, The Imperial Garden is a great place to see during the day to unwind. It’s in the middle of the city so it’s really easy to get to.  The Tokyo Tower is also quite a sight to behold.  It was modeled after the Eiffel Tower in France.  There are other attractions to see inside the tower while visiting  such as an observatory and a wax museum.
